Steven Brady Clement

Stevie's Birth Story:

I thought for sure Stevens birth was going to come faster and easier than Ty's because he was my second baby and my first one was so good and easy! By 38 weeks I was already expecting him to come because Ty was right on his due date and everyone tells you that the second baby comes earlier. FALSE! I was much more impatient because of that and I wish some how I could have just enjoyed those last couple weeks. Maybe that's impossible :) But those weeks drug on and on. I had random contractions all the time that would get my hopes up but nothing came of it. Apparently with your second kid you feel contractions earlier. I went to my 40 week appt 2 days after my due date and the doc told me he wouldn't induce me until the next Monday (dec 16) but i wanted him to come on his own anyway so I could compare the two labors.
The next morning was Dec 10th and I had started bleeding so I knew he was coming that day or the next! My BIL Eric texted me that morning saying that if I wanted to have my baby before them I'd better hurry! (Angela was due 4 weeks AFTER me but Blake decided to come early and was born a day before Steven! Too funny. They ended up being born exactly 24 hours apart both at 11:53 am! It was crazy! It was also fun to be a couple rooms away from each other at the hospital so we were able to visit often!)
That night I went walking at the rec with Ty and tried getting those darn contractions to move along. Finally around 7pm I starting having painful contractions but still pretty far apart. By 11pm I knew that they weren't going to stop but it wasn't quite time to go to the hospital. I told John to go to sleep and Id wake him up when they were strong enough. I laid in bed timing contractions and trying to sleep but they were pretty painful and I couldn't sleep through them. They started coming more regularly and by 3 am they were consistently 3-5 minutes apart so I got the bag ready and ate some cereal (since I was starving last time!) and then woke John up to go. He picked up mary (bless her heart for waking up and coming over in the middle of the night to sleep with Ty!) and then we were on our way! The whole way there I kept second guessing myself thinking that I was probably only dilated to a 2 or something but I knew that sometime the next day we'd be going to the hospital anyways so we just went. When the nurse checked me I was at a 5! I wasn't crazy after all! She did tell me, however, that  they'd need to monitor me for an hour and if I didn't progress Id get sent home. I was at a 5 and 4 days late, was she crazy?! She was already getting on my nerves! Luckily in the next hour I was at a 6 so they kept me. After that  though my contractions slowed WAY down! I was so bugged. The nurse totally jinxed me! I stayed at a 6 for 4 hours. I asked to get my water broken and for the epidural and Pitocin so we could move things along.
The epidural this time was horrible...I felt nauseous the whole time and was numb in all the wrong places. At one time it completely wore off and I could feel all the  super intense contractions. I wanted to cry! He gave me more numbing meds and then I got waaay too numb. I couldn't wiggle my toes and my legs felt so heavy like they were filled with led! Im guessing that's how epidurals usually are but because the one I had with Ty was so perfect I was expecting it to be the same and it was not! I was irritated that it wasnt working the same way.
I finally got the weirdest urge to push (never felt that with Ty) and it was BAD! There was so much pressure I wanted to throw up. The nurse checked me and said I was complete and would be ready to push in 15-20 min. I watched that clock the whole time. I was dying! When they finally came back in they positioned me to push. I pushed hard about 4 times and he was out! I felt instant relief. All my nausea was gone and he was so cute and perfect! I could tell he was smaller than Ty and had the littlest amount of hair it was so cute. He was born at 11:53 am on Dec 11, 2013. He was 7lbs 10 oz and 19 inches long. John cut his umbilical cord and then they put him on my chest for a minute. They took him to weigh him and then when they were done I was able to breastfeed him. He latched right on and ate for 40 min! It was awesome!
I didn't tear this time which was so nice! But apparently I bled 5 times more than I was supposed to and the nurse was really worried. They moved me down to my recovery room but kept my IV in until later that day so they could keep giving me pitocin to contract my uterus back down to stop the bleeding. I was just fine after that but hadn't slept since the morning before so I was exhausted! I could barely keep my eyes open and my face was so swollen but he was worth every second!

  1. I didn't know that you bled like that! Crazy! I'm glad it all turned out okay. It's crazy how different every birth is. That's what scares me about having more kids. Who knows what it will be like. That's a cool story to read, a Stace!
